October 19, 2024This 12-day itinerary takes you through the breathtaking regions of Himachal Pradesh, starting from the popular hill stations like Shimla and Narkanda, and moving deeper into the less-explored, serene valleys of Sarahan, Sangla, and Kalpa. It offers a perfect blend of scenic beauty, culture, and adventure.
Day 1-2: Shimla/Narkanda (2 Nights)
- Day 1: Arrival in Shimla
- Highlights: Arrive in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Spend the day exploring the Mall Road, The Ridge, and Christ Church. If time permits, visit Jakhoo Temple for stunning views of the town.
- In the evening, enjoy a leisurely stroll and indulge in local cuisines at one of the many cafes on Mall Road.
- Day 2: Shimla to Narkanda (Day Trip or Overnight Stay)
- After breakfast, head to Narkanda, a serene hill station located about 60 km from Shimla.
- Highlights: Visit the Hatu Peak, offering panoramic views of the snow-clad mountains, and the Hatu Mata Temple. You can also enjoy skiing (during winters) or take short nature walks around the lush green apple orchards.
- Spend the night either in Narkanda or return to Shimla for a relaxed evening.
Day 3: Shimla/Narkanda to Sarahan (1 Night)
- Travel to Sarahan: Start your journey to Sarahan, about 160 km from Narkanda, offering stunning views of the Sutlej River and surrounding mountains.
- Highlights: Visit the famous Bhimakali Temple, a beautiful example of Himachali architecture and an important pilgrimage site. The temple’s unique wooden construction and intricate carvings are worth admiring.
- In the evening, explore the quaint village and enjoy the cool mountain air. If time permits, visit the Sarahan Bird Sanctuary, home to the Western Tragopan, a rare bird species.
- Overnight stay in Sarahan.
Day 4-5: Sangla (2 Nights)
- Day 4: Travel to Sangla: Drive to Sangla Valley, one of the most picturesque valleys in Himachal, located in the Kinnaur district. The valley is about 85 km from Sarahan.
- Highlights: Sangla is known for its lush green meadows, apple orchards, and the mighty Baspa River. On arrival, visit Kamru Fort, a historic structure dedicated to the goddess Kamakhya Devi.
- Spend the evening relaxing by the riverside, soaking in the natural beauty of the region.
- Day 5: Sangla Exploration:
- Visit the charming Batseri Village to witness traditional Kinnauri architecture and culture. Take a walk along the Baspa River and enjoy the mesmerizing views of the valley.
- You can also go for a trek to Rakcham Village, a quaint settlement surrounded by towering mountains and offering panoramic views of the Sangla Valley.
- Overnight stay in Sangla.
Day 6-7: Kalpa (2 Nights)
- Day 6: Travel to Kalpa: After breakfast, head towards Kalpa, located about 50 km from Sangla. Kalpa is a scenic town nestled in the Kinnaur region, offering spectacular views of the Kinner Kailash range.
- Highlights: Upon arrival, visit the Suicide Point for thrilling views of the surrounding cliffs and valleys. Take a walk through Roghi Village, known for its traditional wooden houses.
- In the evening, relax and enjoy the panoramic views of the snow-capped Kinner Kailash range, especially during sunset.
- Day 7: Kalpa Exploration:
- Visit the Narayan-Nagini Temple Complex and the Chini Village to explore the local culture and unique architecture. You can also visit the Hu-Bu-Lan-Kar Monastery, a centuries-old Buddhist monastery that reflects the region’s spiritual essence.
- Spend the rest of the day at leisure, taking short hikes or simply enjoying the peaceful ambiance of Kalpa.
Day 8-12: Journey Back with Optional Stops
- Day 8-9: Return Journey to Sarahan or Narkanda: Begin your return journey from Kalpa, stopping at Sarahan or Narkanda for an overnight stay. Use this time to relax and take in the beautiful mountain vistas.
- If you missed visiting the Tani Jubbar Lake near Narkanda earlier, this would be a great opportunity to see it.
- Day 10-12: Back to Shimla: Return to Shimla for the final leg of your journey. Depending on your time, you can spend the last day exploring nearby attractions like Mashobra or Kufri, which offer more scenic beauty and adventure activities.
- On your final day, wrap up your trip by visiting local markets for souvenirs and handicrafts before departing from Shimla.
